Best Scones in Christchurch, NZ
Cantabrians take their baking seriously, and our map currently has more scone spots logged here than any other city in the country, so you’re spoiled for choice.
Christchurch’s scone culture runs deep. We’re founded here and we have the largest number of bake sales per capita than anywhere else in Aotearoa… and it shows up in the data. We’ve taken a look and the cheese scone has taken over the lead from the classic plain scone with raspberry jam and cream in recent years… and there’s so many good choices on every cafe menu.
A few spots in the new CBD have started doing genuinely good alternative options, all with local ingredients thanks to Canterbury’s rich dairy and crop farming history.
Currently rated highest by the crowd:
- Sign of the Kiwi with it’s buttery date scones (they are huge!).
- Close behind: Kin Bistro, known for it’s cheese and berry scones.
- Into something different, Dune Cafe in New Brighton does a savoury version that the locals swear by.
